But we won’t give up without a fight so…

With the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the government’s decision to advise everyone to stay away from clubs, bars and restaurants The Stand Comedy Club finds itself in peril along with other hospitality venues. We are currently closed to the public until the 13th April (under review and based on government advice). Due to the government’s advice rather than enforcement we like many others, have no insurance to cover a period with no income. The simple truth is that unless we receive financial support from the government, we will no longer be able to offer a living wage employment– or maybe not even any employment – to our staff in three cities. We will be unable to support the live comedy circuit in Scotland and the North East of England. No more Red Raw nights for new acts – the stars of the future – to cut their teeth, no more shows from the big names who’ve fallen in love with our ethos – and audiences – over the years.

We have teamed up with Dabster Productions to bring comedy to the people who can’t come to us…

Saturday Night Live From The Stand (Saturday 21st March at 8:30pm)

The show will be filmed and live streamed from our Edinburgh club with stand-up from Mark Nelson 2017 Voice Magazine Winner Pick of the Fringe, 2017 List Magazine Top 100, Winner Best Headliner 2015 Scottish Comedy Awards,. Vladimir McTavish – 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award at the Scottish Comedy Awards, 2017 Best Event Scottish Comedy Awards, BAFTA Nomination Live Floor Show, Joint Winner Strathmore Water Comedy Award 1994. Ryan Cullen, Capital Comedy Club Best Newcomer,

Irish Comedian of the Year runner up, Jo Caulfield – as seen on ‘Have I Got News for You’ and ‘Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow’ & Phill Jupitus, star of ‘Never Mind the Buzzcocks’ and the West End!

Whilst there won’t be an audience in the venue for obvious safety reasons, we hope to bring some much-needed laughter to all those people who can’t come and see live comedy in a club setting. The stream will be available on desktop, mobile and tablet. There will be a function where people can comment live to provide that back and forth banter that is common in the comedy world.

The live stream is FREE to watch. There is an optional donate button for anyone willing and able to help us generate some revenue to help us through this difficult time. If you can’t donate, then it would be great if you could share the link, so we reach and cheer up as many people as possible.

In addition to the Donation Link we are also encouraging people to purchase Gift Vouchers, Memberships and tickets for future shows across all three venues.

We intend to lighten the mood of the country whilst securing the future for our staff and acts and to ensure our loyal customers have venues to come back to once the situation improves.

Big thanks to our Glasgow based web company Parachute for quickly building our live page for the streaming and donation page.

The acts playing this show are available for phone interviews.
